In the last article, I explained how to select the note or chakra for your singing bowl. Here I’ll explain how to choose the size of your bowl.
- If this is your first crystal singing bowl, then select a bowl between the 10” and 14”.
If you’ve ever listened opera then you know that some singers can reach a very high pitch or octave and others have a very deep or baritone voice reaching a low octave. The size of a crystal singing bowl determines the octave:
- The smaller the bowl, the higher the octave
- The larger the bowl, the lower the octave
Therefore, a 6″ bowl is going to be a very high octave whereas an 18″ bowl will be a very low octave.
Now imagine listening to an opera singer singing in the high octave for 20 minutes. A little unnerving? That is why we suggest starting with a 10” to 14” bowl. This is middle octave, your normal speaking range so you’ll be able to play for a long time without the tone eventually becoming unsettling.

If you already have a singing bowl, then your next bowl should be 2 sizes higher or lower than the one you currently have. This is not really a rule but a recommendation. If you’ve bought your singing bowl from Omnivos Therapeutics or Crystal Tones, we’ll have a record of the characteristics your bowl and can offer suggestions on what size (and note) to get next, ensuring that which ever bowl you select will harmonize well with your existing singing bowl(s).
Eventually, you’ll have a perfectly harmonized set ranging from 9” or 10” to 18” or higher. If are selecting a bowl for the first time or adding to your existing set, call or email us for no obligation advice and suggestions.
