Gongs are increasing in popularity lately. There are many of different types of gongs to choose from but the two most popular are the Symphonic gongs and Planet gongs from Paiste. Question is, what’s the difference and which should you choose?

The difference between these two gongs is in the precision of the tuning. Planet Gongs are tuned to the frequency of the planets whereas the Symphonic gongs are orchestral, not tuned to an exact frequency. Both will absolutely help with your meditation or healing work. The Planet Gongs are more expensive because it takes longer to make them due to the precise tuning.

As for which to choose, there is no right answer. It really depends on your intentions. Many of the people I work with like to have both the planet and Symphonic gongs available to them. If you are very focused on healing or universal energy then you should look more closely at the Planet Gongs. If you are doing meditation or general work or price is a consideration, then you really cannot go wrong with a Symphonic Gong either. If you can manage it, I would recommend at least two. I’ve always found that playing one instrument off another creates great harmonics and a really good healing and meditation experience.
